Scholarships

Scholarships for 2019 are now open.

Each year Westminster School offers a broad range of general excellence and academic scholarships to both new and continuing students. Scholarships provide partial fee remission for tuition or boarding fees to the successful candidates.

Scholarships recognise achievement in the areas of academic endeavour, sport, performing arts, service and leadership.  We invite applications from individuals with outstanding character who have a desire and capacity to make a valued contribution to the School community.

Examinations, interviews and auditions will be conducted in February 2018 with the winners notified in March 2018.

All scholarships listed below are for the year level your child will be in 2019.

Year 6 All-Rounder Scholarship

Available to new students entering the School in Year 6 2019.  Recipients will be able to demonstrate all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.

Value: 30% of tuition fees per annum from Year 6 until the end of Year 12

Years 7 and 8 Academic Scholarships

Available to Westminster School students and to new students entering Year 7 or Year 8 in 2019. Scholarships will be determined by the results of the ACEP examination held 3 February 2018. A scholarship of 50% remission will be offered to the top performing Year 7 candidate. The Selway Scholarship of 100% remission will be offered to the top performing Year 8 candidate, and the Fenner Scholarship of 50% remission will be offered to the second top performing Year 8 candidate. Other varying remissions may be offered to high performing candidates.

Value: Between 25% and 100% of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 or 8 until the end of Year 12

Year 7 and 8 All-Rounder Scholarships

Available to new students entering Year 7 or Year 8 2019. Recipients will display all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.

Thomas All-Rounder Scholarship

Awarded to a new student entering Year 8 to Year 11 to complete their schooling at Westminster.  The scholarship intends to reward and encourage students who demonstrate a commitment to self-improvement, show tenacity and strong work ethic and who achieve consistently high performance in each of three areas:  

  • Academics
  • Co-curricular involvement (particularly sport)
  • Community involvement

The Thomas Scholarship recipient will be an all-rounder student who shows the potential to develop into a leader in the Westminster and wider community.

Year 8 Council Scholarship

Awarded only to an existing Westminster Preparatory School student entering Year 8 in 2019. The recipient will display all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.

Assessment: Online submission and interview for shortlisted candidates
Value: 25% remission of tuition fees per annum from Year 8 to Year 12

Year 8 Fricker Performing Arts Scholarship

Awarded annually to a new or existing student entering Year 8 2019 at Westminster School. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a willingness and capacity to make a significant contribution to Performing Arts in one or more of the following disciplines: Music, Drama or Dance.

Value: 50% remission of tuition fees per annum for five years from Years 8 to 12.

Year 10 Old Scholars’ Scholarship

Available to new or existing students entering Year 10 at Westminster School in 2019. The student must be the child or grandchild of an Old Scholar. The recipient will possess outstanding personal qualities and ability in both the academic and co-curricular areas. The intention is that any family can benefit only once from this scholarship.

Year 10 or 11 Robert Fraser All-Rounder Scholarship

Awarded to new students entering Year 10 or 11 at Westminster School.  The recipients will display all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.

Boarding Scholarships

The Clifford Boomsma Boarding Scholarship is awarded each year to new boarding students entering Years 7 to 10 at Westminster School in 2018. The recipients will be all-rounders who display outstanding personal qualities and ability, in both the academic and co-curricular areas. One of the scholarships is reserved for a son or daughter of an ICPA (Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of Australia) member.

Value: 50% remission of the boarding fees (excluding tuition) per annum until the end of Year 12

Principal's Scholarships

A range of Principal's Scholarships may be offered to applicants for any of the above scholarships. These scholarships will have varying remissions, and are offered to high performing students.

 

Indigenous Youth Leadership Project (IYLP)

This initiative is funded by the Australian Government.

The IYLP offers scholarships and leadership opportunities to young Indigenous Australians, with a focus on youth from remote and regional communities with funding support through the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

In addition to helping Indigenous students achieve their educational aspirations, the IYLP supports the development of positive role models and leaders to inspire other Indigenous students.

  • The Smith Family, in conjunction with Westminster School, invites applications for 2018 boarding. Places are open to students entering Years 8 to 12 in 2018.
  • Applications are sent directly to The Smith Family where they will be short-listed for further consideration.
  • If successful in the next stage of the application process, a face-to-face interview will be held at Westminster School with the IYLP Manager.
