Chairman's Announcement

Simon Shepherd appointed as next Principal of Westminster School

Newly appointed Principal Simon Shepherd

The School Council has now concluded its search for Westminster’s sixth Principal and I am delighted to announce that Simon Shepherd, currently Principal of The Scots PGC College, Queensland, has been appointed to the position.

Originally from Jamestown, South Australia, Simon is an inspiring, highly engaging and respected educational leader with more than 20 years of experience in independent schools across Australia and in the United Kingdom. Since 2014 he has led a comprehensive program of holistic improvement at The Scots PGC College, a co-educational day and boarding school in Warwick, southwest of Brisbane. Previous senior leadership roles include Head of Senior School at Westminster’s affiliate school, Wesley College in Melbourne and Director of Boarding at the renowned Kinross Wolaroi School, Orange. He has held teaching, boarding and pastoral positions at Canberra Grammar, Girton Grammar Bendigo, and Trinity College Gawler; and in the United Kingdom at the Strathallan School and Stewart’s Melville College, Scotland and Highgate, London.

Simon holds a Masters of Educational Leadership from the University of Canberra, a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Adelaide and a Graduate Diploma of Outdoor Education from La Trobe University, among other tertiary qualifications.

The appointment of a Principal is one of the most important and challenging tasks a School Council can undertake. After electing to readvertise the position in February, the Council was pleased to receive a great number of applications from an outstanding list of new candidates.

Simon Shepherd was the standout candidate in every respect and the Council is excited to have found such a person of integrity, of vision, an exceptional educational leader and one who shares the values of Westminster School and our commitment to achieving excellence in all areas.

Simon will commence at Westminster in Term 4 and is looking forward to continuing the tradition of residing on campus at Highmoor, together with his wife Susan and young sons Daniel and Jeremy.

I thank Grant Bock for the excellent work and commitment he is providing currently in the role of Acting Principal, together with the School Leadership Team. These acting arrangements will continue until Simon’s arrival.

I thank members of our School community for the positive support they have shown in recognising the importance in making this significant decision. I look forward to introducing you to Simon Shepherd over the coming months, as he prepares to assume the role of Principal of Westminster School.
