Dance

Please follow the link to download the Co-Curricular Dance Program.

Westminster offers Dance as part of the curriculum from Years 8 -12 (including SACE dance at Stage 1 and 2). Dance is also a popular co-curricular activity from reception – Year 12 and performances occur regularly as part of the Performing Arts program. Students are trained by highly qualified and experienced dance teachers in a variety of genres. Dance is held in the David Jarman room, which is a large purpose built dance studio equipped with ballet barres, mirror, special dance flooring and video facility.

Our Dance curriculum includes studies in contemporary dance, ballet, improvisation, composition, body conditioning and dance theory and analysis. Our co-curricular dance program consists of classes in hip hop, ballet and creative dance. Boy’s physical movement classes are also on offer.

Students at all year levels have training in a variety of dance technique and have the opportunity to perform throughout the year in the Michael Murray Centre.  Students also create their own dance through learning skills in composition and choreography. Dance theory and analysis is also a component of the program, to provide a deeper insight into the arts and culture.

Dance production (design, costume, stage make-up etc.), safe dance practice, injury prevention and the research of dance in Australia and globally are also studied throughout the senior years.

Live dance theatre performances are organised each year for all students in the curriculum program, to broaden their dance knowledge and experience.

There are 10 co-curricular dance classes across the Prep and Senior School, and a dance collective group that meet each week to create innovative and challenging dance material. Entry to the collective is by audition.

A triennial dance tour to New York is an opportunity provided for further training and development in the area of dance.

We currently have more students participating in dance than any other private school in Adelaide. Both male and female students are involved in Dance over 12 year levels at Westminster.
