Language and Cultural Tours

Both our Senior and Preparatory Schools conduct the Language and Cultural Tour as a part of LOTE program. The main aims of the Westminster Language and Cultural Tour are:

  • to increase language skills;
  • to increase cultural awareness and knowledge;
  • to increase personal skills: organisation, independence, problem solving, tolerance, compassion;
  • to provide the opportunity to develop relationships with sister schools; and
  • to share about Australian lifestyle and culture.

Through the Language and Cultural Tour, students increase their intercultural competency and enhance their language skills and knowledge of a target LOTE country. After the tour, students can apply for German or Japanese exchanges through Round Square or our Exchange Program.

The Japan Tour has been an on-going component of our Japanese course and departs every second year (2014, 2016, 2018…) The tour is focused on having more cultural experience, understanding Japanese society and improving student's language skills. In addition, students will visit sister schools in Tokyo, Kyoto, or Hiroshima such as Tamakawa Gakuen, Aoyama Gakuin, Kansai Gakuin, or Hiroshima Jyogakuin to consolidate the existing relationship. The 14 day tour would give our senior students a cultural and language experience in Japan, which will greatly enhance the current Japanese program and their individual learning.

The China Tour has been a core component of our Chinese course and departs every year. Westminster School has become the sister school of Hangzhou Greentown Yuhua School (GYHS). GYHS holds their International Culture Festival (ICF) in October every year and invites Westminster students who study Chinese to attend. The tour combines participation in the International Cultural Festival and a guided tour which gives students various live opportunities to improve their language skills, communicate with Chinese people, have cultural experiences and gain a better understanding of Chinese society.
