NAPLAN at Westminster

NAPLAN tests form part of a nationally developed program commissioned by the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA). All schools in Australia participate in the annual testing of numeracy, reading, writing, and language conventions, excluding Year 3 writing.

Westminster values the data provided by NAPLAN and encourages students to approach the tests positively and to aim to do their best, recognising that the results are one measure of student achievement and will allow us to guide and support their learning journey.

Further NAPLAN information can be found here.

Important Dates

In 2025, NAPLAN testing will be conducted at Westminster from 12 to 24 March.  Further information on the NAPLAN test window can be found here. The National Coordinated Practice Test will take place on Tuesday 25 February, during Lesson 3 and 4.

Compulsory Practice Test

All students and schools are required to participate in the nationally coordinated Compulsory Practice Test (CPT). The CPT is an important event that confirms readiness to administer NAPLAN Online at the School. Westminster’s practice test will run for 45 minutes and while performance is not assessed, it will give students a valuable chance to become familiar with the platform and the testing systems.

The CPT and NAPLAN tests will take place in a strictly monitored environment without disruption. There will be no additional time for student’s requiring special provisions and they will also not be permitted to leave classrooms during the allocated testing period.

In advance of taking the CPT and NAPLAN online, students and parents are invited to use the public demonstration tests to familiarise themselves with the type of questions and related functionalities available in the NAPLAN Online Assessment.

Withdrawal

In special circumstances, a parent or caregiver may withdraw their child from NAPLAN, for philosophical or personal reasons. A signed copy of the withdrawal form must be sent to the School Principal’s delegate, Andrea Sherwood asherwood@westminster.sa.edu.au before Friday 21 February. A student who is withdrawn is classified as being absent from the tests, they will also be ineligible from taking the CPT.
