Year 11 Work Experience Week
Monday 23 to Friday 27 June 2025
Work experience allows students to gain valuable insights and practical experience outside the classroom. It helps students understand employer expectations and worker responsibilities as they look at future career paths.
Discussing at Home
Please discuss with your child what they would like to try. Your interest and encouragement will be greatly valued. If unsure, students can use My Career Match (MyCareerMatch - Career Personality Quiz - Which career is best for you) with the school code found in SEQTA or try interactive quizzes on myfuture.edu.au. Brainstorming ideas with friends and family and checking past placements on SEQTA can help find a Workplace Provider willing to take a student.
Timeline
All forms must be returned, and work experience finalised by Term 1 Week 10, Friday 4 April.
Preparing for Work Experience
There will be no Year 11 lessons during Work Experience week.
Students can choose five days at one location or split time between two locations (e.g. three days then two days).
In readiness, students need to complete, sign and date a digital Workplace Learning Agreement Form (WLAF) and send it to the Workplace Provider for countersigning. Parents/carers should then sign and return the form to School for final approval.
Students will attend an individual appointment with the Carrer Pathways Advisor during Term 1 of Year 11. Essential information for students is on SEQTA, covering topics such as the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, Children’s Protection Act 1993, Equal Opportunity Act 1984, Safety Checklist, Proforma Letter and additional guidelines for students, parents, and Workplace Providers.
Current students have been given instructions on how to create a Plink account (we’ll ensure new students do this too), essential for work experience, by using their School email address, and completing the WorkPRO courses, which cover important topics, such as workplace health and safety, and equal opportunity. This helps create a safe and productive environment for the students and workplace providers.
Students should send an email or letter of request to a workplace requesting work experience, or could make a phone call requesting work experience, followed by an email including the WLAF and Workplace Learning Procedures for Workplace Providers booklet.
Other Useful Information
Some organisations, such as SAHMRI and Defence Forces, require online applications, which may show different dates to our Work Experience week. Students can still participate if they commit to catching up on any missed schoolwork.
SAPOL now accepts students to their Discover SAPOL program through an online application process.
South Australia has reciprocal agreements with other states, but paperwork needs to be completed earlier.
If a student needs to stay away from home for work experience, Section 1.3 of the WLAF must be completed for overnight stays away from home.
For those working in a marine environment, an additional form is required.
Students interested in working in childcare or any role involving children must obtain a Working with Children Check, so it is important to start this application process early.
Year 10 students have been provided with a suggested work experience application template, as well as published guidelines for students, parents and workplace providers.
