An Easter Reflection from Rev Phil
Walking the Journey from Jerusalem to Westminster
As we approach the season of Easter we are encouraged to reflect on and find meaning in the story of Jesus’ ultimate giving in Jerusalem that lies at the heart of faith for Christian people.
I have had the remarkable privilege of living in the lands of the Bible for three years. Jerusalem was my home. This gave me opportunity to see and participate in a huge variety of religious events. Jerusalem at Easter is a four-day carnival of solemn remembrances and joyful celebrations.
Perhaps one of the most significant of these is the tradition of “The Stations of the Cross”, a walk through ancient, cobbled streets with fourteen (14) pauses to recall events of Jesus’ fateful journey to his final end, as recorded in the Bible’s four (4) Gospels and marked at or close to where they first occurred.
Today the “Stations of the Cross” are found as paintings, sculptures and other art pieces adorning the walls of churches, especially Orthodox and Catholic, across the world.
I also invite you to watch the School’s Tenebrae Service below - a significant part of our Easter observance. This treasured tradition within our School, draws us into the story of Christ’s death on Good Friday through readings, darkness and reflection.
