Health Update: Measles
Many of you may be aware that there are concerns across Australia over an outbreak of measles. Westminster, like many schools, are following the news and spread of measles.
SA Health has advised that Westminster was recently visited by a person who has since been diagnosed with measles.
The visitor was on the School oval, Wednesday 26 March, between 10.00 - 11.15 am and again between 2.00 - 3.15 pm.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness. Early signs can include fever, cough, runny nose and sore eyes, followed by a blotchy rash that usually starts on the face and spreads down the body.
If you, your child or any family members were on the School oval during the specified time, please monitor for symptoms. If symptoms appear, seek medical advice immediately.
The wellbeing of our community is always our highest priority. Westminster is working closely with SA Health and will continue to share relevant information when required.
Please refer to the measles factsheet on the SA Health website here.
Support Tanzeed – A Walk With Purpose
For the past three years, the Westminster community has supported the development of a school in Tanzania through Tanzeed, an initiative founded by Geography teacher Adam Burford to provide local children with access to education.
On Friday 4 April, our Year 11 and 12 students will once again take part in The Walk to Westminster, a 14-kilometre walk to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.

Real-World Learning Through Wellbeing@West Incursions
Senior students at Westminster have recently taken part in a series of real-world learning experiences as part of the School’s Wellbeing@West program, engaging with expert presenters on topics that matter beyond the classroom.
In a confronting and deeply impactful session, Year 11 students heard from the SA Metropolitan Fire Service through its Road Awareness Program. Delivered by experienced firefighters, the presentation offered a raw and realistic insight into the consequences of poor decision-making on the road. With road trauma remaining the leading cause of death and serious injury for young South Australians aged 16–24, the message was both timely and critical. Students were guided through the dangers of speed, distraction and driving under the influence, while also reflecting on their roles as passengers and pedestrians. A moving first-hand story from a father who lost family members in a crash brought a powerful human perspective to the session.
Meanwhile, Year 10 students attended the nationally recognised PPEP Talk® presented by the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia. Backed by Federal and State Government support and aligned with the Australian Curriculum, the session equips students with medically accurate, age-appropriate information about pelvic pain and endometriosis. Delivered with humour and empathy by a registered nurse, the program helps destigmatise pain, improve early intervention and build understanding across all students.
Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of female students and 94% of male students saying they found the session informative.
- “I now know things about my body that I didn’t. It was a highly engaging talk and I paid attention for the whole presentation.”
- “I learnt how to care for people with periods and endometriosis.”
Last week Year 12 students heard from internationally recognised motivational speaker Glen Gerreyn from the Hopefull Institute. Glen’s keynote, Hope Unlimited: How to Thrive in a Complex World, focused on purpose, mindset and resilience. His talk supported key themes from the Wellbeing@West program including grit, emotional intelligence, empathy and optimism. With over one million people reached through his work and appearances at TEDx, national media and schools across Australia, Glen’s visit was a memorable and motivating experience for our senior students.

Weekly Sports Wrap
Tennis and Cricket
Last week, we highlighted the outstanding achievement of our Drive tennis team in reaching the semi-finals against Marryatville. In a tightly contested match, the sets were locked at 3-3, leaving Tennis Captain Alex Gellert to play the deciding set. With composure and determination, Alex secured a 6-4 victory, sending the team through to the Grand Final. As Summer Intercol takes place this weekend, the Grand Final will be played at the end of Week 10.
A special mention to our Year 9A Cricket team for an exceptional term. Sitting comfortably at the top of the ladder with just one loss, they have shown great skill and teamwork. With several talented cricketers in the squad, some may challenge for First XI selection when cricket resumes in Term 4.
