Message from the Principal
Why have we chosen adventure?
Coming into Term 1 and the start of a new school year, we again turn to our strategic plan launched last year in which we want our students to be exposed to adventure in their learning.
John Amatt, Canadian Expedition Leader and Explorer (now renowned public speaker) best summarises adventure for us. He describes adventure as an attitude; as: facing new challenges, seizing new opportunities, testing our resources against the unknown and, in the process, discovering our own unique potential.
When we want our students to achieve more than they thought possible, adventure seems to be a natural steppingstone. Importantly, an adventurous education requires adventurous parenting. We have to let our children face new challenges, we have to let them test themselves against the unknown and this may well involve discomfort and hardship for them to grow. Sometimes this applies to parents and carers too if they have to rethink their approach to letting their children do and be their best. Of course, we are still the safety net that our children almost forget is there when on their unique and personal adventure.
We will be sharing more about adventurous education with students and families over the course of the year. In our planned program, we will be running a number of panels and workshops on adventurous learning, and it would be fantastic to see as many of you at these as possible. Please look out for communication around these events. I encourage you all to make the most of these adventurous opportunities and worthwhile resources.
I am looking forward to a wonderful 2025 with great, adventurous outcomes which we can share and learn from together.
